Restoring the Warriors Heart
3135 Trenton Rd
Clarksville, TN 37040
As those who live and serve in a military community we have seen the toll that more than a decade of war has taken on the brave soldiers of the most deployed installation in the U.S. Army. In 2009, the Fort Campbell community experienced 11 suicides between January and May, with an average of one suicide per week between January and March of that year. As more troops return from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, the population of everyday Americans who have experienced combat will rise, especially as these veterans separate from the service. When we read about the increased suicide rate, what comes to mind for us is not numbers, but real names. Like many of you, the people whose names appear on the left side of this page feel a great sense of responsibility to minister to our soldiers and their families. This team is comprised of local pastors, Army Chaplains, businessmen and counselors who have come together to make a difference.
On February 1st-3rd, a retreat will be held at Camp Garner Creek in Dickson, TN to offer active duty combat veterans and their spouses spiritual tools to deal with the stresses of combat that will benefit them both down-range and on the home-front. Major General Robert Dees (ret) (author of “Resilient Warrior”), Quilts of Valor, the Clarksville Area Ministerial Association, Camp Garner Creek Retreat Center, and other local churches have endorsed this event.
The budget is estimated at $10,000 and we are asking for your support so that we can hold this (and future) retreats at no cost to our soldiers. Please consider a one-time gift or ongoing contribution to this worthy cause. For only $250, you could sponsor a couple for the entire weekend. If you would like your gifts to be tax-deductible contact our treasurer Ken Gilman at email@example.com. All who contribute will be recognized on the retreat program.
